What the research does agree on is the shape. Small allocations have produced most of the portfolio benefit in historical studies, the gains have diminished as the position grew, and disciplined rebalancing has done much of the work. Beyond that, the appropriate size depends on time horizon, on how much volatility a portfolio can absorb elsewhere, and on whether the investor holds the position for diversification or for growth.
